The rising price of gold is fuelling an increase in mergers and acquisitions, as larger companies look for new resources to develop. Though in general the value of gold mining stocks has not risen with the spot price, this is likely to change as majors acquire smaller prospecting companies.
The relatively high price of gold has supported the renewed focus of gold exploration in concentrated areas that are emerging as hotspots.
Caldera Resources Inc. (CVE:CDR) an exploration company focused on acquiring and developing precious metal deposits in South-Eastern Europe. The Company's keystone property, the Marjan Gold and Silver Project, is a high-grade gold and silver epithermal vein system with three distinct zones located in the Republic of Armenia.
Epithermal gold deposits are a type of lode deposit that contain economic concentrations of gold, silver and in some cases base metals including copper, lead and zinc.
Tanzania is the third largest producer of gold in Africa after South Africa and Ghana and is also well known for the Tanzanite gemstones. In addition to gold, the country has expansive amounts of natural resources including gas, uranium, diamonds, coal, iron ore, nickel, copper, chrome, tin, platinum, coltan, niobium, kaolin and other minerals.
Russia has the third most extensive gold resources in the world and was the fifth largest gold producer in 2009. The total numbers of exploration enterprises are also considerably under represented by junior gold companies, compared with activity in other mining jurisdictions.
According to United States Geological Survey base estimates, Papua New Guinea has approximately 20 percent more extensive gold resources than Canada. Last year, gold production for the nation was only 65 percent of the total extracted in Canada. Projects in the area may be worthwhile for opportunistic bullish investors as demand for gold has recently pushed its price beyond the much vaunted $1300 per ounce threshold.
Tarsis Resources Ltd. (CVE:TCC) reports its exploration update activities in the Yukon Territory, Canada. At Tarsis’ MOR project, diamond drilling of 443.83 meters has been completed in two holes designed to test a strong copper geochemical soil anomaly in close proximity to both an IP and a gravity anomaly. Mineralized intervals from the drill core have been [...]
Opawica Explorations Inc. is a junior explorations company with interests in the exploration and development of mineral resource properties. They main focus is the 100% owned Atikwa Lake-Mayburn gold and copper project located near Kenora, Ontario.
SEMAFO (TSE:SMF) is a gold mining and exploration company which operates three gold mines in West Africa: the Mana Mine in Burkina Faso, the Samira Hill Mine in Niger and the Kiniero Mine in Guinea.
